VMware Workstation and Fusion are now entirely free for all users
After making Workstation Pro and Fusion Pro free for personal use six months ago, Broadcom has announced that these two products are now available for free to all users, including commercial, educational, and personal sectors. This change is effective immediately, transitioning both software tools away from the paid subscription model. As a result, the paid versions, VMware Workstation Pro and Fusion Pro, are no longer available for purchase.
Existing commercial contracts will remain valid until their expiration, ensuring that users receive the agreed-upon level of service and enterprise-grade support. However, the free versions will not include support ticketing for troubleshooting issues.
Despite the shift to free access, Broadcom has committed to ongoing development of new features and improvements, with updates to be released promptly. This move follows Broadcom's acquisition of VMware and its efforts to simplify the product portfolio over the past year.

Having used VMware Workstation and Fusion for many years, I am quite shocked that Broadcom decided to make those hypervisors freeware.
Ever since Broadcom announced that they were initially going to make Workstation and Fusion free for personal use, I have been thinking that apart from the lack of support, which is understandable for free software, there has to be a catch somewhere.
