Broadcom simplifies VMware product portfolio and ends sales of perpetual licenses
Broadcom, following its recent acquisition of VMware, has announced a significant simplification of their product portfolio. The decision for this change is driven by customer and partner feedback, indicating that the existing offers and go-to-market strategies were too complex.
The simplification will be implemented across all divisions of VMware by Broadcom, with particular changes being made to the VMware Cloud Foundation division. It will now feature two main offers: VMware Cloud Foundation and the new VMware vSphere Foundation. The former is an enterprise-class hybrid cloud solution designed for running business critical and modern applications. The latter is a simplified enterprise-grade workload platform tailored for mid-sized to smaller customers.
Broadcom has also announced that all offerings will now only be available as subscriptions or term licenses. This comes after the termination of the sale of perpetual licenses and Support and Subscription (SnS) renewals. However, customers with active support contracts for their perpetual licenses can continue using them. Broadcom will continue to provide support as per existing contractual commitments.
