Tutanota announces PQDrive project to develop a post-quantum encrypted cloud storage solution
Tuta Mail, the email encryption and secure messaging service, has announced the launch of the PQDrive project. With a €1.5 million grant from the German government, Tutanota aims to develop a post-quantum encrypted online storage solution.
The announcement by Tutanota highlights the need for a new approach to encryption as quantum computers become a reality. Currently, available solutions for email encryption and encrypted file sharing use asymmetric encryption, which will be rendered useless once quantum computers are available.
The PQDrive project will culminate in the release of TutaDrive, the first end-to-end encrypted cloud solution that will ensure data storage and exchange remain secure even in the face of quantum computers. TutaDrive will provide the same ease of use as other cloud storage solutions, but with an unparalleled level of security.
To achieve post-quantum secure encryption, Tutanota will employ a hybrid approach. All data will be encrypted using both classical algorithms and new, innovative post-quantum-safe algorithms. With the launch of TutaDrive, Tutanota aims to address the growing concern of data security in the age of quantum computing. By providing a secure cloud storage solution, Tutanota is taking a proactive approach to protect user data in the future.
