Google tests Magic Compose AI tool for simplifying SMS text composition
Google Messages is testing Magic Compose, an AI tool that aids in creating SMS texts. The tool uses previous conversations to generate multi-sentence text suggestions and allows users to choose the message tone, providing several response options for each style. Previously, Magic Compose was only accessible to US beta testers for Rich Communication Services (RCS) conversations, but it's now being extended to traditional SMS texts on the beta channel, making response composition simpler and quicker for users.
Users can find the auto-generated responses by clicking the chat bubble icon next to the message composition box. For a more personalized response, users can type a prompt in the message box and then click the pencil icon next to it.
Currently, Magic Compose's availability for regular SMS texts is limited, but ongoing tests indicate Google's intention to roll it out to more beta testers and eventually to the stable channel. The exact timelines for these developments haven't been revealed, but there's potential for the feature to be added to other Google-owned communication apps.

LOL, isn't this what they were meant to be doing all along? "Predictive text"? No? Remember all of those "opt in" agreements where we gave Google access to our messages (etc)? WTH have they been doing with it up until now? This is kind of like Microsoft saying "we're going to start making office software that can correct your spelling mistakes, even for words you've never spelled before!"
