Microsoft's Bing Chat enters open preview with exciting new features
Microsoft recently announced that Bing Chat has entered open preview, meaning it no longer requires a waitlist to try out, in addition to several exciting new features similar to what we've seen in OpenAI's ChatGPT Plus, which seeks to enhance its capabilities as a chatbot. One of the most notable features is support for third-party plugins, allowing users to customize their Bing Chat experience with different external add-ons and personalizing the chat experience. Additionally, chat history support will soon be available, allowing users to receive more personalized results based on past conversations and resume them if they wish, improving the overall chat experience.
Another important addition is the ability to export and share content. Users can now easily share content from their chats with others, improving collaboration and making it easier to keep track of important information. Improved summarization of longer documents and webpages will also be added to Bing Chat, making it easier for users to quickly get the information they need and add customized tones to the prompt.
The integration of Edge actions into Bing Chat is another exciting development. This feature allows AI to complete tasks within the chatbot using Edge, making it easier for users to get things done without ever leaving the chat window. For example, you can ask Bing where a movie is available for streaming, and it will show it to you on the streaming platform's page directly, saving you the work of having to search for it yourself. Additionally, Bing Chat will now support charts, graphs, and other visual answers, making it easier to understand complex data. It's also worth mentioning that Bing Image Creator, which uses DALL-E to craft AI-generated pictures, is now supported in over 100 languages.
Bing Chat has seen tremendous growth in recent months (or even weeks), with over 100 million daily active users and a 4x increase in downloads of the Bing mobile app, according to Microsoft. This growth has been driven in part by the fact that Bing Chat is powered by OpenAI's GPT-4, but also thanks to its notable advantages over ChatGPT, such as built-in image creation, integration with Bing search, and easy access through the Edge Sidebar, not to mention the constant new features they release at a fairly rapid pace.
