Google Meet's latest update lets you turn off video feeds during calls
Google Meet has recently rolled out a new feature that allows users to turn off video feeds from other participants during a call. This is particularly useful when you want to focus on the presenter or if there are distracting video feeds on the screen. The feature is available on both the web and mobile versions of Google Meet. Mobile users can also select "Audio only" to turn off all video feeds except for tiles presenting content.
One of the best things about this new feature is that it only impacts the user's experience and not that of other participants. This means that if you choose to turn off someone's video feed, they will not know that their video has been turned off. Admins do not have control over this feature, so it's entirely up to the individual user to decide which video feeds they want to see during the call.
To access the feature, end-users can select the three-dot menu and choose "Don't watch" from the people panel or individual meeting tile. The rollout of this feature will be gradual and may take up to 15 days for feature visibility. However, it is available to all Google Workspace customers, including legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers.
Overall, the new feature from Google Meet is a welcome addition for users who need to focus on a particular speaker or want to avoid distracting video feeds. The gradual rollout will give everyone a chance to adjust to the new feature, and its availability to all Google Workspace customers is a significant benefit for businesses that rely on the platform for communication and collaboration.
