Audible tests inclusion of ads for non-paying members

Amazon-owned audiobook company Audible has started testing the inclusion of ads in some of its content. The ads will be shown to non-paying members and are being tested on a select user base. The ads will appear in traditional audiobooks, podcasts, and Audible original content. The providers have been given the option to opt out of ads, and a maximum of eight ads will be played within a 24-hour period. It is not clear whether the test is a prelude to a wider ad-supported subscription tier.
