Valve launches Steam Link for Meta Quest VR, allowing users to stream their game library
Valve has introduced its Steam Link / Steam Remote Play app for Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro headsets, enabling users to stream games from their Steam library to their VR devices wirelessly.
A wired connection between the PC and router, and a 5GHz WiFi network for the Meta Quest headset are required for optimal streaming. Users must have Steam and SteamVR installed on a Windows 10 or Windows 11, with a minimum of 16GB of RAM and an Nvidia GPU, specifically an "RTX2070 or better." The Steam Link app must also be pre-installed on the Meta Quest device.
The integration of Steam Link with Meta Quest headsets allows users to play games like Half-Life: Alyx wirelessly, although this was already achievable through third-party solutions like Virtual Desktop or ALVR - Air Light VR (with some additional steps). This move adds even more value to the Meta Quest 3, which was recently launched with positive reviews not only for its gaming applications but also for productivity, putting the ball in Apple's court with their recently announced Vision Pro.
