Google Podcasts will shut down in 2024, with a migration tool to YouTube Music coming soon

As announced in September, Google Podcasts will discontinue its services in the US by April 2024, with availability until the end of March 2024. To aid this transition, Google will introduce an "Export subscriptions" feature to YouTube Music, with users being notified via a banner in the coming weeks.

A new tool will also be launched to help users transfer subscriptions to YouTube Music, with podcasts not currently on YouTube being added via RSS feeds. Users can also export Google Podcasts subscriptions as an OPML file to switch to other podcasting apps, with the deadline for this migration set for July 2024.

Google will provide more information regarding the availability of Google Podcasts and the migration tool in other countries soon. Meanwhile, YouTube Music will see an enhancement with a "mark as played" feature for podcast episodes, allowing users to skip episodes without manually reaching the end. New episode alerts will also be introduced in the streaming platform soon.

If you're a Google Podcast user and don't like the idea of migrating to YouTube Music, we recommend taking a look at some of the podcast-centric alternatives available on the Google Podcasts app page, such as AntennaPod (free & open-source), the well-known Pocket Casts, Podcast Addict, or Overcast.
