Ardour 8.2 released with note tupling, no-strobe option and Solid State Logic UF8 support
The open source and cross-platform digital audio workstation, Ardour, has announced the release of version 8.2, available for Linux, Windows, and macOS, including the latest Sonoma release. This update completes the support for all current Novation LaunchPad devices and the new SSL UF8 surface, in addition to the typical collection of bug fixes, small new features, and quality of life improvements.
One of the highlights of this release is the note tupling feature, inspired by a feature in the new Ableton Live 12. When editing MIDI, users can select one or more notes and press “s” to split each note into two equally sized parts. Pressing “s” again will split the note into 3, then 4, 5, and so forth. The process can be reversed with shift-S, and the “j” command can be used to join selected adjacent notes back together.
Ardour 8.2 also introduces a no-strobe option, a new user preference that can disable all “flashing” and “blinking” elements of the Ardour GUI. This is intended for users who are sensitive to this type of visual input. When enabled, clocks do not run, no buttons blink, and meters do not move.
The update also includes support for the Solid State Logic UF8, a USB MIDI / Mackie Control Protocol device, and the Novation LaunchPad X and LaunchPad Mini devices. With this release, Ardour now supports the full range of Novation LaunchPad mk3 devices.
