Proton expands encrypted cloud storage service to macOS with new Proton Drive app
Proton, the Swiss-based company known for its focus on privacy, has expanded the availability of its encrypted cloud storage service, Proton Drive, to all major platforms with the introduction of a macOS app. This addition follows the release of Proton Drive apps for iPhone, Android, Windows, and web.
The Proton Drive macOS app facilitates easy file synchronization between a Mac and the cloud, allowing users to access files offline and free up local storage space. All these features are provided with end-to-end encryption and privacy as a standard.
The synchronization process is straightforward with the Proton Drive macOS app. Once sync is enabled, all files in a Proton Drive account will directly sync to the Mac. These synced files are conveniently located in the Proton Drive folder on the hard drive.
In addition, the app includes a Tray app located in the top right corner of the screen. Clicking on the app icon provides a quick overview of the sync status. Proton's future plans include the ability to sync any folder on a Mac with Proton Drive, a feature already popular in the Windows version of the app.
