Microsoft rebrands Bing Chat as Copilot, adds new features and launches new dedicated web

Microsoft has renamed its AI-driven Microsoft Copilot to "Copilot," aligning it with other products such as Microsoft Copilot (Windows & 365) which kinda integrates Copilot for Microsoft 365, Copilot in Windows, Copilot Enterprise, and more. The rebranded Copilot still uses OpenAI's GPT-4 and DALL-E 3 models and will be available from December 1. It will continue to be free for certain Microsoft 365 licenses, including F3 accounts for frontline workers. Microsoft has also announced support for OpenAI's latest GPTs and custom roles for its AI assistant.

The company has also launched a dedicated Copilot web app, which is accessible through Microsoft Edge and Chromium browsers on Windows and Mac devices, with plans to add support for mobile browsers soon. The website requires users to log in with a Microsoft account and provides a chat interface similar to the previous Bing Chat and other implementations of Copilot in other Microsoft apps.

Announced Copilot upgrades in Microsoft 365 apps include enhanced personalization options for formatting, style, and tone, along with a new Microsoft Word feature enabling users to identify document changes by querying Copilot. In Microsoft PowerPoint, Copilot facilitates the use of corporate assets for AI-enhanced visuals, and for Microsoft Teams meetings, it improves note-taking, offers instant answers, and creates collaborative spaces in Whiteboard. Outlook.com integration enables Copilot to analyze invitation details and related content for creating event summaries or even reply to email messages for you.
