Microsoft expands AI-powered Copilot to Windows 10 in the Release Preview version

Microsoft has extended its AI-powered Microsoft Copilot (Windows & 365) feature to Windows 10 for testing in the Release Preview version, after initially being exclusive to Windows 11. The Copilot interface in Windows 10 mirrors its Windows 11 version but has slight feature differences due to the lack of certain skills or actions in Windows 10.

Copilot testing is accessible for Windows 10 Home or Pro users in the Release Preview channel and is set to be available to all Windows 10 users in supported markets soon. Microsoft has hinted at incorporating more AI features into Windows 10, although no major updates are planned. The company has confirmed that the support end date for Windows 10 is October 14th, 2025, with the current version 22H2 being the final iteration.

The decision to introduce Copilot to Windows 10 is a strategic move by Microsoft to improve user experience and retain the operating system's popularity, particularly given the slower than expected adoption of Windows 11, and of course, the recent rebranding of Bing Chat to 'Copilot' suggests that the AI chatbot/assistant is a key part of Microsoft's AI strategy, and they plan to integrate it into as many of their products as possible.
