Microsoft enhances Photos app with background removal, a new timeline scrollbar, and more

Microsoft has updated its Microsoft Photos app with a range of new features for members of the Windows Insider Program. The additions include a Background Removal feature, which allows users to eliminate and replace image backgrounds and save or copy the adjusted image. The app also now has a Color Customization feature, enabling users to replace the background with a chosen solid color. Filmstrip feature has also been revamped and now appears beneath the main image with larger thumbnails and a larger scrollbar. It is deactivated by default and can be activated by pressing the F key or clicking the Filmstrip Icon.

A new Timeline Scrollbar has been introduced for all folders in the app, improving the navigation and organization of photos based on the time range of the images, and the app also integrates with Microsoft OneDrive, enabling users to share photos one by one directly from their cloud storage. Microsoft has also simplified the photo printing process with a relocated Print button and a new 7:5 aspect ratio option in the Resize tool.

Microsoft has also made several performance and stability updates, notably addressing issues with the Slideshow feature, tab navigation, and image opening. To avail these new features, members of the Windows Insider Program need to update their Photos app to version 2023.11110.8002.0 or above.

Interesting feature ! Microsoft makes nice additions to a simple photo program, I wonder what would be the Linux alternative for a program that can view photos and makes edits like this.
