Google Meet introduces gesture detection for physical hand-raising in virtual meetings

Google Meet has introduced a new feature that utilizes gesture detection to allow users to physically raise their hand to ask a question during a meeting. Previously, participants could only indicate their desire to speak by clicking the hand-raise icon.

The gesture detection will not be activated when a user is the active speaker. However, once a user ceases to be the active speaker, the feature will resume its functionality.

The roll-out of this new raise hand gesture has begun across various Google Workspace tiers. This includes Google Workspace Business Plus, Business Standard, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Plus, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Starter. It will also be available to Education Plus, the Teaching and Learning Upgrade customers, and Google Workspace Individual subscribers.
