Amazon joins Google and Apple in adopting passkey technology for enhanced security
Amazon has joined dozens of other major companies like Google or Apple in adopting the passkey technology protocol to enhance security while simplifying the online shopping process. Initially, passkey support is available on iOS and the web, with plans to expand it to the Android Amazon Shopping app.
Amazon's Senior Vice President of Ecommerce, Dave Treadwell, has said that traditional passwords will still be functional, but passkeys represent a move towards a safer, passwordless internet (as we mentioned in an article at the beginning of the year). The new technology enables users to replace traditional passwords with biometric security options like Touch ID, Face ID, or a PIN on trusted devices.
To set up passkeys, users need to log in on the Amazon Website, go to the "Your Account" section, select "Login & Security," and follow the instructions to set up passkeys. The introduction of passkeys is part of Amazon's commitment to enhancing the security and convenience of its services, marking a shift towards more secure and user-friendly authentication processes in the industry.
