Reddit is implementing real-time post and comment vote counts and real-time typing indicators
Reddit has announced that it added new real-time updating for the like counts on posts and comments, as well as support for when multiple users are reading and typing a response to posts.
In a post on the official Reddit blog, the social network's product and design team detailed how these new features are an effort to "make Reddit look and feel more lively and in the moment." For real-time reading indicators, anonymous avatars are shown when five or more registered users are reading a post. For typing indicators, a similar notification is shown for two or more people writing a response to a post.
The new comment indicator that shows up when you're reading a Reddit post will now allow you to click and see live comments sorted by the newest first without having to manually refresh the page. The animations the coincide with this functionality are optional for registered users and can be disabled in the user animation settings portion of the site or app.
This real-time functionality has started rolling out across Reddit for the web as well as the smartphone app on both Android and iOS-powered devices.
