Reddit is introducing a “For You” feed to enhance content discovery

In a move aimed at improving content discovery and user experience, Reddit has announced the introduction of a new dual-feed system that gives users a clearer choice between exploring new communities and staying updated on their existing ones. The update, which will roll out globally over the coming weeks, introduces two distinct feed options: “For You” and “Following”, allowing users to switch between them seamlessly.

The “For You” feed combines posts from communities users have joined with algorithm-driven recommendations tailored to their interests, designed to surface relevant communities and conversations that might otherwise go unnoticed. In contrast, the “Following” feed offers a more focused experience, displaying only posts from communities users have actively joined, enabling a streamlined catch-up experience without algorithmic interference.

Reddit describes the change as “a first step in helping drive discovery that leads to something novel and relevant—an idea, a connection, a unique perspective, or even a new interest”. The company emphasized its vision of “a more human internet” where users actively find value and want to participate, rather than passively consuming content. Notably, users can switch between feeds at any time, and the platform will remember their last-selected feed upon reopening the application.
