Reliable and easy to use... but it is an Electron webapp, not a native app, and while it detects alternative niche browsers like Zen and DuckDuckGo, the browser it supports are hardcoded and you can't add a custom browser if yours aren't supported. You rely on asking the devs to support it.

Icons are also nice and high resolution, but it is also hardcoded. Zen browser was stuck with older logo for a long while until the devs realize it got updated.

An audio editor that does everything.

Unfortunately, it looks like an ancient dinosaur. It's something I have to use, not because I want to use, with the alternative being Ocenaudio which is free & look and feels nice but lacks multitrack & loopback that Audacity does have.

Even the logo is ugly with pure blue headphones and some random bright red & yellow soundwave. You're with Audacity despite all the lacking design because no other have all of it's functions.

Simple, fast, and works great. Unlike Excalidraw, this one have list of boards inside the browser so you don't have to mess with loading a board file.

Has the best built-in adblocker, but Brave has now became sort of a one trick pony. There are no new noticable quality of life features added to the desktop browser for a long time; things like Workspaces, for instance.

Medium is now user-hostile. Absolutely unreadable nowadays thanks to semi-fullscreen & fullscreen popup modals, force sign-in, force app installation, and more, all of which limits the reach of an article.

If I'm going to start writing articles or blogs today, I'd stay far away from Medium.

Very fast to load. Very clean, uncluttered, modern design that's very easy on the eyes & unintimidating.

All of this combines to remove friction to opening it, including emotional friction.

Straight up using the Edge logo, even if it's just the old one, is a bit wild 😅😅😅

VLC is that ol' reliable software. It can read all your files, even obscure formats, and even broken ones. Though for a few years now it seems to sruggle with newer video formats, the kind of files that you now get if you use YT-DLP to download from the likes of YouTube & Twitter nowadays, with VLC struggling with seek bar controls on those files and weird stutters.

It also is severely lacking in modern Quality of Life features & comforts, like seek bar preview or a floating Picture-in-picture...
