i've had zonelarm for a number of years but stupidly "upgraded" to the 2016 (14.something) version on my XP computer. It is NOT compatible with the AVAST antivirus I have installed, it also installs a non-compatable version of .NET and some other things like toolbars and caused me all kind of hell. System freezes, not-boot states, etc. AND good luck removing it, as it won't uninstall in safe mode! Can no longer recommend this. Maybe commodo instead?
Like someone else said, there yet to find a better alternative that suites theme in here and i agree, for my reasons i really like zone alarm free, the conduct search tool bar has gone, you do have to watch when installing this firewall in because it does tend to installing something else with it, i am uninstalling this great classic because it has now installed its anti-ransomware with it, without my Knowledge, also it has pop up adds now and again, why the hell do they waste such a nice little firewall in its own ...RIP ZoneAlarm free again FOR me .. now what , windows standard with some confusing fig ??? May 2019
Neat firewall ! The network UP and DOWN traffic indicator is a great feature...
It "was" a great tray traffic indicator, but no these days. So why they removed this kind feature do not know...
Since I installed the free firewall version my win 10 PC it hanged for a million times. It even hanged my PC when I was uninstalling it. This software should be forbidden and removed from the internet as soon as possible!
For those who don´t know what search conduit is, it´s a piece of garbage which replaces your default search provider (google, yahoo, bing..) for their website (search.conduit.com). Latest upgrade of ZoneAlarm doesn´t improve security of the app, it just installs a toolbar (in my case in Firefox), you can disable and remove it, but the damage is done and it´s no easy to 100% remove it from your system.
Exactly. So, it's not free anymore. It's adware, in fact.
Has a good pedigree, but I've found the latest builds to be a little heavy on the system resources (I was running it on older workstations), and opted for either the OS default firewall or a lighter product.
I still use this, gets the job done, but I've yet to find a better alternative. The site shows a few but not many likes on them or enough info for me to switch yet.
