swedneck Peertube is federated, which means anyone with the know-how can host their own instance of peertube where they can upload videos to, and anyone on another peertube instance can find their server/account and view their videos. For an example of a federated service already in use, look no further than Email.

Out of the decentralized, open source alternatives to YouTube, this one is probably the best. It's being developed by Framasoft who consistently does amazing things

It does not have very many videos on it at all! I searched Minecraft and multiple other subjects and came up empty!

rigelk Small is beautiful, and federated meshes communities together to form video networks ressembling their users. Moderation is done by the community, and development is led by a non-profit: Framasoft. You get control over your data, and you can join other servers if you so desire. Plenty of possibilities rarely seen elsewhere!

It is a great alternative to Youtube which lets you host your own video platform and connect it to the other peertube servers

Not bad. its federations of multiple links of different sites and different video hosting places. But, there are some issues like lack of functional issues to like; simplistic navigation, more proper view-able UI, and loading times. Overall? Not bad.

MediaGoblin is an open source project than can be hosted on any server. It is decentralized but a federation connects all servers between them. And they don't use your data like YouYube/Google.

Clueless how it works and it would not upload my video when I tried the demo so there was no way to figure it out.

      pros, cons and recent comments
It's not a good alternative to YouTube because the idea is upload a video, get a link and share it. That's it. It doesn't have a interface that you can search for videos and etc. Basically, it doesn't have the "social network" that YouTube has.

      Piped vs YouTube
      pros, cons and recent comments
It's much nicer than Invidious. Piped is not a full YouTube alternative like LBRY, but rather a frontend that allows you to watch YouTube and only connecting to googleapis.com (not googlevideo.com like Invidious). It also has the craziest ad blocker ever. When you watch a video and they say, now it's time for a word from our sponsor or something like that, it fast forwards to the end of that part. It's insane, I have no idea how they pull that off!

Akito This one is not bad and not so bloated as most other alternatives. However, it seems to be not developed anymore. The latest release was 2017 and that is also the year the last commit was made in its Github repository. https://github.com/cumulusclips/cumulusclips
