What is WriteFreely?
WriteFreely is an open-source, minimalist, federated, self-hosted blogging platform. It was built for and by
Write.as and can be used to power a similar community or just a single blog. It's lightweight enough to run even on a Raspberry Pi, it's built with Go (Programming Language) and is designed to provide a fast, minimal and elegant interface for writing.

Comments and Reviews
Great support, active development, open source, ActivityPub support
"To install WriteFreely, you primarily need a server with root access, a running database like MySQL, and a web server like Nginx, along with downloading the WriteFreely binary which can be run directly on your server with minimal configuration; essentially requiring only basic system administration knowledge and access to a server you control."
WriteFreely is comparable to WordPress.org == it *must* be hosted on own hosting space. Write.as is comparable to WordPress.com == one can just sign up and start hammering the keyboard hacking one's blog out
The key difference between Write's offerings v/s Automattic's offerings are that Wordpress.com offers a free tier whereas Write.as *does not!*
With a far smaller ecosystem of themes and plug-ins, and no opportunity to familiarise oneself at the free tier of a hosted instance, Write's CMS/blogging offers *no advantage* over Automattic's WordPress, especially for newbies. Unless you are feeling adventurous or have the relevant experience, or confidence to deal with issues that may crop up, stick to WordPress or Blogger and give WriteFreely a miss.
