Comment summary: WordPress is praised for its ease of use, extensive plugin ecosystem, and user-friendly interface. Users appreciate its versatility for blogging, websites, and e-commerce, highlighting its large community support and SEO capabilities. However, criticisms include maintenance challenges for larger sites, limited free version features, and a complex interface for developers or business-scale applications. Security vulnerabilities and cumbersome plugin management are also noted downsides.

I've now used Wordpress for 11 fantastic years and it just gets better and better. It doesn't only have to be used for blogging these days, all sorts of website types can be made with it.

Overkill to a simple site. Looks easy, but if you want to do professional work you need to go down the php+js+sql rabbithole. Most of the "'free" templates are not free, 99% of them missing some important feature and you will be forced to pay for it. Tons of security issues with plugins and wyswyg editors. It's for blogging. If your site don't have a blog and you know the basics of html+css, you don't need WP. Very hard to migrate, even with plugins, i had lot of errors with backups and migrations. I avoid WP every time i can.

It's funny how you talk about doing "professional" work then complain about needing to go down the coding rabbithole. If you're doing anything "professional" that should be the basics.

I think you have the wrong idea and expectation regarding what wordpress is for and who it's for

ok I understand you don't know coding. but for your website once workpress installed you need to add plugin and pay extra to have an interesting website unless you know php now you will be able to make plugin and be advance in wordpress.

I have always found Wordpress easy to use and I have used it to power a number of my company's websites. The plugin marketplace is vast and it's easy to find solutions to common use cases.

Here are some setup suggestions from them: Create a database for WordPress on your web server, as well as a MySQL (or MariaDB) user who has all privileges for accessing and modifying it. etc.. or If you will be uploading WordPress to a remote web server, download the WordPress package to your computer with a web browser and unzip the package. If you will be using FTP, skip to the next step – uploading files is covered later. If you have shell access to your web server, and are comfortable using console-based tools, you may wish to download WordPress directly to your web server using wget etc If you are using a hosting provider, you may already have a WordPress database set up for you ...that's the one I'm going to try for

What is WordPress?

WordPress is software designed for everyone, emphasizing accessibility, performance, security, and ease of use. We believe great software should work with minimum set up, so you can focus on sharing your story, product, or services freely. The basic WordPress software is simple and predictable so you can easily get started. It also offers powerful features for growth and success.

We believe in democratizing publishing and the freedoms that come with open source. Supporting this idea is a large community of people collaborating on and contributing to this project. The WordPress community is welcoming and inclusive. Our contributors’ passion drives the success of WordPress which, in turn, helps you reach your goals.
