Based on the success of our
PhrozenSoft VirusTotal Uploader, Phrozen Software is proud to introduce Winja, which provides even greater malicious file scanning and monitoring capabilities. Winja—short for “Windows Ninja”—is much more than an advanced uploader and multi-engine antivirus scanner.
We took the
VirusTotal application programming interfaces (APIs) and recoded them from scratch to bring you a powerful, fast, and user-friendly scanning and monitoring utility. Winja checks for existing scans before uploading files to save you time and efforts. It also includes a rescan option, so you can scan your files against the latest antivirus databases. Winja is designed to deliver the quality and capability you have come to expect from a Phrozen Software product. Of course, we paid close attention to the interface design and usability to make it comfortable and convenient to use for inexperienced users, but we also included extra features to make it a powerful tool for advanced users as well. Winja is lightweight and stable, to perform effectively and efficiently even on older computers. With Winja, you can easily scan files on your local system, scan and download files from the web, and scan running system processes. Winja’s “Extra Tools” panel also allows you to scan and monitor scheduled tasks, startup activities, and services. We specifically designed and coded the Extra Tools panel be plugin-ready, which means it can be progressively updated via our new Live Update System with any number of future functionalities. By submitting suspicious files you find with Winja to VirusTotal service, you participate in helping antivirus companies around the world keep virus definitions up to date and stay on top of digital security trends.
Comments and Reviews
Terrible. Absolutely unforgivably abysmal.
The UI is nonstandard, poorly designed, and not user friendly.
I registered the shell extension, but neither of its functions worked at all.
I configured Winja, then restarted it as Administrator, and all the settings had been lost.
I invoked the "QUICK PROCESS SCAN" function, which is anything but, since each process is queued for scanning due to VirusTotal's throttling. I asked Winja to scan running processes (of which I have many), and after discovering that it would take all day to complete, found no way to make it stop without terminating Winja completely.
After "uninstalling" Winja, I found it removes hardly anything. It left its AppData folder, its scheduled task, its registry entries, its shell extension registration, its CLSID, etc.
There is no excuse for an application to be this utterly awful. None.
Winja (aka. Windows Winja)
• a very corny play on words, (Ninja -> Winja)
Is a file up-loader ONLY . . . to VirusTotal ONLY.
Winja does not perform ANY checks, it only extracts data from VirusTotal webpage
Replicates VirusTotal
Winja is NOT just a signature verifier. It relies on VirusTotal for a "SigCheck"
Virus Total does not always report on signatures, so Winja cannot verify signatures, comprehensively.
SysInternals "SigCheck" (by Microsoft) is a pure sig-check, (command based)
"SigCheckGUI" gives a true sig-check without the bloat of Winja extras.
Who cannot drag drop a file onto VT ? ... I also like to access other info on VT scan page
