What is Granular Volume?

Granular Volume is an application that helps reduce the loudness of the lowest volume setting on Android devices. This issue occurs because the initial volume above mute is a percentage of the device's maximum output, not a fixed volume level. As a result, the lowest volume setting can be loud on devices with high maximum volume, and there's no built-in option to lower it further.

Granular Volume solves this by adding additional volume steps below the device's minimum level, using Android's native audio engine. It offers seven extra steps, allowing for a reduction of up to 30 dB below the default lowest level. The app features a small, movable control that can be activated from a Quick Settings tile, repositioned on the screen, hidden at the edge, and closed with a tap. It also remembers the user's preferred control position.

Granular Volume doesn't interfere with the device's volume buttons or replace the system volume panel. It works as an overlay, providing a specific function without disrupting the device's existing volume controls.
