Volume Control: Quiet Dial

Volume Control: Quiet Dial (also called Granular Volume) is an Android app for when the lowest volume step is still too loud. Android's first step above mute is a fixed share of the device's maximum output, so on a loud phone or tablet it can be too loud, and stock Android has nothing below it.

The app adds six quiet steps below the device's minimum, 5 dB each, the lowest 30 dB below it, using Android's own audio engine, with no root. Above the minimum line the same floating dial sets normal volume in even steps, so it also stands in for worn or broken volume buttons. It is a small movable control: tap a bar or an arrow, move it anywhere on the screen, minimize it to the edge, or switch it on and off from a Quick Settings tile. It lowers media, ringtones, notifications and alarms. It cannot lower regular phone calls or keyboard sounds, and how it behaves depends on the device.
