Vibe Typer is a desktop voice-typing app. You hold a hotkey, talk, and clean text appears wherever your cursor already is. There is no window to copy out of and no per-app setup.
Where it fits: it works system-wide in any app you can type in, terminals and code editors included. It ships as one portable AppImage that runs natively on both Wayland and X11, across Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, Arch, and Linux Mint. Also available on Windows, macOS, and iPhone.
It is notable for being one of the few polished dictation tools that supports Linux at all. The best-known apps in this category (Wispr Flow, Superwhisper, Willow Voice, Dragon) do not ship a Linux build, which leaves Linux users with either scriptable open-source tools or nothing.
What it does:
- System-wide dictation at the cursor, in any app
- 99 languages with automatic detection, no per-language downloads
- Magic Formatter strips filler words, false starts, and self-corrections before the text lands
- A personal dictionary that learns from your corrections
- AI rewrite and reply on selected text
- Dictation history saved locally, with a diff view comparing what you said to what was output
Transcription runs in the cloud on large speech models, so accuracy and speed do not depend on your hardware. Audio is processed in memory and is not stored server-side, and the backend keeps no transcript cache.
Pricing: free tier covers 2,000 words and 20 AI operations per month with no card. Pro is $8/month billed annually, or $10 month-to-month, which removes both limits.
