Its not totally free, but a very good alternative to Total Commander as well as Windows File Explorer. It has almost all the features of TC including the plugins support. Alongside of FC, I am also using Double Commander, which requires more customization than Free Commander in order to make it friendly in Windows. However Double commander is totally free.

It’s difficult to compare the two as if you need zip compression and FTP, XYplorer does not have these features. But XYPlorer have a ton of features that Total Commander lacks. XYplorer is a modern file manager with clean interface and very customable - you can have quick access and in tons of way. It’s not a "simple" file explorer and I discover features I did never use before. So, they are files explorer but philosophy is so different that they don’t play the same game.
