FreeCommander vs Total Commander Comments
Absolutely, save and powerfunktions
Flexibility, use of plugins

- FreeCommander is Freemium and Proprietary

Its not totally free, but a very good alternative to Total Commander as well as Windows File Explorer. It has almost all the features of TC including the plugins support. Alongside of FC, I am also using Double Commander, which requires more customization than Free Commander in order to make it friendly in Windows. However Double commander is totally free.
