Comments and Reviews
Said about Thunar as an alternative
Faster (and more effective for older, low-resource machines), but devoid of split panes.
Much faster and snappier than Nemo (Mint 17.3), automatically imports bookmarks from Nema in Linux Mint
shift-clicking and ctrl-clicking act like most people expect, unlike dolphin, which has some akward +/- system that I never learned, and drove me nuts.

Default file manager for xfce. Has had a few problems in the past with refresh on file renames, but sorted that some time ago and has been incredibly stable ever since. Sensible keyboard shortcuts. Simple to use, simple workflow when managing files. Has integration for search and also bulk-rename. I make extensive use of custom commands, and Thunar is about the only file manager that makes this really easy. True it's not as customisable as some others, but you want a file manager to let you manage your files. So it wants to be sufficiently capable of that but not much more. Thunar excels and I wouldn't use anything else.
Very fast, simple and gets the job done. Different types of file appearance (table, preview, list) and left panels (folder tree, favorite links, hide) can be changed quickly with a shortcut.
