  • Cannot synchronize WebDAV-files as only Allway Sync or GoodSync can do
  • Cannot synchronize "Windows Mobile" files or folders as only Allway Sync or GoodSync can do
  • No triangle-sync as only Allway Sync, GoodSync, SyncLess or FreeFileSync can do.
  • No VSS-support as FreeFileSync has, only with VSS-Support it is possible to sync open files
  • Not portable as FreeFileSync (with VSS-Support), SyncLess, Synkron or Toucan (no VSS-Support) is.

Outdated. Glitchy install requiring hunt-and-find .Net Framework 3.5. It still wouldn't install. I was going to do a comparison with Compare Advance, which is my favored folder comparison program at this time.

Tools Carbonite and GsRichopy360 are more compatible, robust, and rich features than SyncToy

SyncToy will not copy a file more than once. If a file is deleted at the destination folder for whatever reason, it will not be replaced. This software is garbage. You've been warned. I recommend FreeFileSync, but watch out for the toolbar adware.

Wasn't looking for anything complex when syncing web site files between my local copy and the server. SyncToy simply did the trick with very little hastle. If only every Microsoft product worked in such a normal way.

What is SyncToy?

SyncToy is a free PowerToy designed by Microsoft, that provides an easy to use graphical user interface that can automatically synchronize local or network files and folders, but not WebDAV-, "Windows Mobile" files or folders and no triangle-sync as only Allway Sync, Synkron, SyncLess or GoodSync can do. No VSS-support, not portable. SyncToy can manage multiple sets of folders at the same time; it can combine files from two folders in one case, and mimic renames and deletes in another case. Unlike other applications, SyncToy actually keeps track of renames to files and will make sure those changes get carried over to the synchronized folder.
