Super Mario Bros X is described as being "open source". While that is technically true, and the source code is actually available, there's something I'd like to make clear. SMBX is what people in the FLOSS comminuty call "free, but shackled". This means that while the source code is available under a free license, it still depends on proprietary software to run (the proprietary software in question being Microsoft Visual Basic 6, the language SMBX was programmed in). So, while SMBX may be free/libre/open source in and of itself, there's no way to modify the source code without installing a proprietary IDE. If you want a "true" free/libre/open source SMBX, then you should play TheXTech.
