Said about Snagfilms as an alternative
Snagfilms hosts dozens of independent comedies, dramas, documentaries, biographies and more. It varies from Netflix in that the films aren't mainstream things you're likely to have heard of. But that makes it more exciting and there are certainly a few gems hidden there. And you don't have to pay to watch.

Snag films is a website hosting independent TV shows, documentaries, feature films and beyond. It's content is nothing like as well known as that of Netflix, Hulu or Amazon. However, there are some gems hosted on the site, and the key thing is that they are free to watch. Some (but not all) of them happen to be available on YouTube also. Highlights include The Corporation (a film about how corporations live up to their standing as legal "persons"), Gabe and Max Need Help (a hilarious, four-episode comedy about two friends seeking relationship guidance) and the 1968 cult classic Night of the Living Dead.
Snag films is worth a shot if you want to try something a little less usual than the mainstream providers offer.
