What is SimpleShare?
I built SimpleShare because I was frustrated with the current state of file sharing. Services like WeTransfer impose arbitrary size limits, and cloud storage solutions like Google Drive force you to create accounts and track your activity. I wanted a way to send massive files to my friends securely, without signing up for anything and without paying for a server. SimpleShare is a purely client-side file-sharing application. Unlike traditional services, it does not have a backend server that stores your data. Instead, it runs entirely in your web browser. When you select a file, the application compresses it using GZIP and encrypts it using military-grade AES-256-GCM encryption before it ever leaves your device. To handle unlimited file sizes, the system slices your file into smaller chunks and distributes them across permanent public storage ledgers. It then generates a unique 12-character secure code (or a magic link) that serves as the decryption key. Because the encryption happens on your machine, I cannot see your files, the storage providers cannot see your files, and no logs are ever kept. This project is open source and designed to make the internet a little bit freer and private.
