Comments and Reviews
Very nice as a grep tool. But for anything static an index search is a must.
Thanks - the new Searchmonkey is even faster (ripgrep vs grep), and has a modern UI/UX.
Let me know how you find it?
I intentionally collected all the search programs and found it among others. Probably on this website. Maybe through Docfetcher, as its alternative.
Search Monkey has moved to Sourceforge - Search Monkey
Requires JAVA , I will not be testing it in Windows.
There is a new modern version out now - https://searchmonkey.dev
It's written in Tauri/Svelte/Rust so super easy to run on all platforms.
Let me know what you think.
Lookeen ... personal use USD $50.00 per seat Hardly a free alternative
Can SearchMonkey search for contents in a shared drive? Yes - it doesn't rely on indexing, so as long as you have permissions it is fine with that.
How does SearchMonkey handle the permissions? When you run Searchmonkey you will need to either have permissions to access the file, or run it as administrator so that it can access other files.
Can SearchMonkey search through my emails? Not currently, but in the future this might be something we look at supporting.
Can SearchMonkey search through my web browser history? Not currently, but this is something we might consider
How about a google-like web search? Searchmonkey works on data stored locally - think ripgrep - there are plenty of other tools that let you search the web.
stop advertising that damn lookeen on like every similar app
