What is SculptView?
SculptView is a free, open-source 3D viewer and sculpting app designed exclusively for macOS. It opens OBJ, STL, USD/USDZ, and PLY models via drag-and-drop and renders them in a high-performance Metal viewport with multiple render modes (Solid, Wireframe, Material Preview, Normals, Matcap) and studio lighting presets.
Beyond viewing, SculptView offers professional digital sculpting: twelve brushes (Draw, Clay, Crease, Smooth, Inflate, Flatten, Grab, Snake Hook, and more) with pressure support for tablets and Force Touch trackpads, customizable falloff curves, X/Y/Z symmetry, and stroke stabilization. Scenes are managed through a hierarchical outliner with groups, materials, and metadata, and everything is covered by unified undo/redo.
Projects save to a versioned document format with autosave and crash recovery, and models export to OBJ or STL. The interface is fully native, SwiftUI with a command palette, keyboard shortcuts, VoiceOver accessibility, and light/dark mode, and the entire codebase is MIT-style open source on GitHub.
