Screeny costs $15. Quicktime X, which has a screen-recording feature in Mac OS X Lion, is free. Screeny is a little bit better than Quicktime X at recording. You can choose how many FPS to record at, so the video that I recorded with Screeny seemed a bit smoother than the video I recorded with Quicktime X, which played my recording too fast (everything on the screen was moving slightly faster than it actually did during the recording). But that's Quicktime's only flaw; everything else about it is fairly comparable to Screeny's features. The only thing that sets Screeny apart is automatic uploading to CloudApp. And I sure as hell wouldn't recommend paying $15 just for that.

What is Screeny?

Screeny gives you the freedom to capture your videos or images at any size. You can click & drag to resize the capture area or input the exact pixel dimensions to set to the size of the capture area. All the while you will get instant feedback on the capture area's current pixel dimensions. Now you can capture a specific portion of your screen, rather than having to record your entire desktop. This can drastically reduce video file size and bring focus to a specific portion of your screen.

Screeny has a very simple control panel that allows you to set the size of your capture area, snap an image or record a video. Screeny lives in the Menu Bar and you can use the menu options to record or snap images. There are also configureable keyboard shortcuts for all the recording commands. Once you start recording a video, the Screeny Menu Bar icon will display the elapsed recording time, so you can see how long/short you are going.

Automatically upload images & video taken with Screeny to your Cloud App account! You can view the upload and compression progress in the main Screeny Menu. You can even choose to compress your videos before uploading to Cloud to reduce file size and make uploading faster. The original full quality video will be stored on your computer, while the compressed version is sent to the Cloud.

Screeny's video recording capabilities are amazing. In fact, Screeny can record more frames per second than Apple's QuickTime! Screeny immediately saves down a lossless quality (highest quality available) version of your recorded video.
