Scanner Radio is a software application that functions as a police scanner, providing real-time alerts about breaking news. Users can tune into live events, receive local news, traffic updates, emergency situations, public safety announcements, and major national events. The software includes features such as breaking news alerts, viewing scanners in their vicinity, browsing popular scanners, tracking new scanners, and bookmarking favorite scanners. It has a directory of scanners worldwide, categorized by location or genre, and supports CarPlay.

The software alerts users when a scanner exceeds a certain number of listeners, a specific scanner surpasses a listener count, a Broadcastify alert is issued for bookmarked or any scanner, a nearby scanner, or a new scanner comes online in the user's vicinity. Users can activate notifications to receive alerts when a scanner exceeds 2000 listeners. Audio content on Scanner Radio is supplied by volunteers, police and fire departments, through Broadcastify.com and other websites that use real scanner radios.
