What is SaftBackup?
SaftBackup is an english & german backup-software including version control. Backup of locked files via Volume Shadow Copy, automatical limits for the number of backups or backup age.
Store multiple versions of your backups; Encrypted backups; Fast or high compression; Automatic backups via Task Scheduler; Search for and restore individual files and folders; Backups can be automatically deleted, for example if the version is older than x days. A least amount and a maximal amount can be determined in addition of versions, that should not be exceeded and/or dropped below.
Save as many folders and files as you wish on external hardrives, USB-sticks, network drives or any other folder/drive of your choice. Crash-resistant backups in case of system failure.

Very good. Solid and reliable. Just the essential features nicely put together.
Filled with data loss bugs. It doesn't handle default Windows junction points correctly, so trying to restore an ordinary user profile will just crash. If the destination disk fills up, it becomes difficult to delete old backup sets without crashing or corrupting the backup database.
For the file/folder-backup Duplicati is the best free app For a good backup functionality is is necessary to cleanup more/older than x backups (CLU) not only older backups than x months, and to configure the schedule of a backup also for each 2nd Monday 10:00 and to pause if the system is busy (Sch). Duplicati (1) is the best free backup application. Acronis True Image (2) has all necessary functions, has multi-language UI and additionally can do harddisk images with best functions, but it is not free. In difference to Duplicati Saft Backup can do backups with volume shadow copy (VSS), but cannot do a backup on each second Monday and has no flexible file filter. (1)

Great backup software. This is one of the only backup programs which handles versions properly, no full / incremental / differential garbage. It stores backups in SQLite databases, which should mean it's reliable and your backups won't become corrupt. It also splits the files into multiple parts, so you can store large backups on FAT32 drives, and it also reduces the time it takes to defragment.
