I did not try it but as I was looking for information, I saw https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RichCopy which states it is no longer developed

Microsoft's UNSUPPORTED RichCopy seems like an admin's dream at first glance: command line switches make it so you can do customized backups when running as a task.

The biggest problem with RichCopy is that there are parts of it that don't work. Exclusions don't seem to work for very many people out there (IE: exclude file by name or by extension, exclude directories by name). This is just a small example but there are many more. There are hordes of very smart people out there that are trying to make this work but the people with the code for this app seem to have lost interest and have moved on to other things.

If you need to copy files quickly and efficiently then this is your app.

If you need to be selective about what you're copying then keep looking because this app will waste hours (or in my case DAYS) of your time trying to make it work the way it should.

RichCopy is a great app, with tons of features. It is developed by Microsoft engineers, specifically for handling large amounts of copies over networks, between drives, etc, in the fastest / best manner possible.

I liked TeraCopy, but it for some reason would often stop copying halfway through. Since then I've been using RIchCopy, and am very impressed.

Being developed by Microsoft, they must know what they're doing. From the help file:

"RichCopy is designed to help people who copy huge number of files between storage devices directly or indirectly over the network by accelerating copy performance and shorten the time people has to spend for file copy operation. This acceleration has been realized by improving network and storage device utilization with technology used for server services. This new version has improved copy performance from its previous version by optimizing all processes involved. It has actually improved about 10% from RichCopy version 3.5 which already much faster than any other file copy tools."

What is RichCopy?

Trust me when I tell you, this is the answer to all your file copying needs. What youll find most striking the first time you take RichCopy out for a spin is that its a multithreaded copying tool. That means that rather than copying one file at a time in serial order, RichCopy can open multiple threads simultaneously, allowing many files to be copied in parallel and cutting the total time required to complete the operation several times over. You can also pause and resume file copy operations, so if you lose network connectivity at any point, you can just pick up where you left off.
