Remove Empty Directories (RED)
RED searches and deletes empty directories recursively below a given start folder and shows the result in a well arranged tree. Further you can create some custom rules for keeping and deleting folders. Empty files in directories can also be ignored.

Can't get a truly empty folder/0 file readout with this program. I've double-checked... By default it will include what it considers empty folders including those with a tiny file it considers trash signified w/a little green symbol. But even after unclicking the default that says with files that are 0 count as empty (they may just be a few bytes) and restarting the program, some "trash file" folders still show w/the little green symbol. Most people may not be so particular, but I prefer Empty Folder Finder which will give a fully empty readout. On the other hand, it gives more options such as not including System Folders.
Finds empty directories, but only 0kb ones. Windows has empty directories of several kb due to "protected operating system files" Want to delete folders in my music dir, from when I migrated from itunes
It would be weird if the tool named remove EMPTY directories would remove directories that aren't empty, wouldn't it?
I'm using 4 Dots Empty Folder Cleaner. It might suit you better.
A must-have! I wouldn't ask for any change or improvement - it's perfect. Very quick, simple, yet offers a lot of configuration options for people who needs customized search. I used it with a variety of directory names, including non-latin alphabets and there were no problems. There are internal safeguards to ensure that nothing will go wrong. I find hard to believe reviews saying it doesn't work. Apparently there are some files inside (hidden/system files?) or maybe filesystem needs checking. I used for years on different PCs, OSes with variety of options and it always worked.
Simply removes empty folders just as the name suggests. Perfect when you are cleaning up duplicated files with some other app. Like
AllDup .
AllDup is a duplicate FILES finder, not an empty folders finder

I've moved a couple of workstations up to Windows 8 Pro/64bit and it is still a champ for me.
Just a message to say that RED has been updated on feb. 2011. It is now compatible with Vista & Windows 7 so you won't have to do what is suggested in endolith's message.
RED is the best tool I've found for this, since it handles directories with nothing but junk in them (Thumbs.db, .DS_Store), lets you permanently protect directories from deletion, shows a nice tree view, etc.
I got it working in Windows 7 using the compatibility troubleshooter thing, but it doesn't seem fully compatible. It often crashes, due to an inability to read certain filenames.
