RecordPlease is a free and open-source desktop app for recording lectures, presentations and explainer videos on Windows.
It records the screen, webcam and microphone at the same time, directly to MP4. A floating teleprompter window can be placed and resized anywhere, for example right under the webcam; it is visible to the presenter but excluded from the recording (using Windows capture protection, Windows 10 2004 or newer), so viewers see the speaker talking naturally.
The script can scroll at a fixed speed, pause automatically when the speaker stops talking, or follow the speaker's voice word by word using offline speech recognition (Vosk) in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Cues written in brackets or parentheses, such as [PAUSE] or (next slide), are shown but skipped by voice tracking.
Other features:
- Webcam as a separate file, as a round or rectangular overlay on screen, or both
- Plain text and Markdown scripts
- Global keyboard shortcuts that work while presenting in full screen
- Interface in English, Portuguese and Spanish
Privacy: everything runs locally. The app has no ads, account, telemetry or online services, and its only internet access is downloading speech models when the user asks for them.
RecordPlease is intended for recording lectures and presentations, not for use in interviews, exams or proctored assessments.
