What is QtDMM?

QtDMM is a free, open-source readout application for digital multimeters with a built-in, configurable recorder. It is especially useful if your meter's original software no longer runs on a modern operating system. QtDMM runs on Linux, Windows, macOS and FreeBSD and is licensed under GPL-3.0-or-later.

Recorder and display

  • Start recording manually, at a scheduled time, or automatically when a threshold is reached
  • Analog meter with auto-ranging scale, graph and a readings table (every value with time, mode and range)
  • Alarms: banner, beep, popup, or start/stop the recorder when a reading leaves its range, overloads or stops arriving
  • Run several meters at once, recorded in sync, and calculate values across meters (e.g. power from voltage and current)
  • A simulated meter (sine, square, noise, discharge curve) for demos and testing

Export

  • Recorder and readings table as CSV, Excel (.xlsx) or OpenDocument (.ods)
  • Graphs as SVG, PDF, PNG or JPEG

Connections

  • RS232 serial (USB-serial adapters and native UART)
  • USB HID-serial cables (HOITEK HE2325U and compatible)
  • Remote serial over the network (RFC2217), including qtdmm-bridge to share serial and HID meters from a Raspberry Pi
  • Bench meters from Keysight, Agilent, HP and Siglent through sigrok-cli
  • Bluetooth LE, e.g. UNI-T UT60BT, UT61B+/D+/E+ with the UT-D07B adapter, and Victron SmartShunt, BMV-712, SmartSolar MPPT and Phoenix Inverter Smart

Integration

  • A built-in SCPI server answers *IDN? and READ? over TCP, so tools such as lxi-tools, Python scripts or LabVIEW can use your meter as a data source

Supported devices QtDMM currently lists 283 models from 54 vendors, including Metex, Voltcraft, UNI-T, Tenma, PeakTech, Fluke, Brymen, APPA, Digitek and others. Some entries were added from chip datasheets and are not yet confirmed on real hardware. Meters that are not listed can often be used with manual serial settings if they speak a known protocol.

A user guide is built into the program (F1) and also available online at qtdmm.de.
