Proofkit is a Chrome extension for the checks a freelance writer runs after the writing is done and before the article is delivered. It works inside browser-based editors such as WordPress, Medium and most web CMSes. A separate Google Workspace add-on brings the same checks to Google Docs.
One scan reports five things at once:
- the client's banned terms
- the commissioned word count
- keywords that must appear a minimum number of times
- words the article spells two correct ways (for example "website" and "web site"), with US/UK spelling switching
- an optional AI pass for typos, using your own API key or a local model server such as Ollama or LM Studio
Nothing is rewritten until you press a button. Replacements never touch URLs, email addresses, file names or code in backticks, and matches are whole words only, so unifying color/colour leaves "watercolour" alone.
The rule checks and the spelling check run entirely in the browser and make no network requests. No account is needed.
It also includes reusable snippets and a formatter that turns a list of source URLs into "site name | publisher | article title" lines.
The checks are free, including the full built-in dictionary. A one-time purchase (not a subscription) removes the limits on client presets, snippets and URLs per formatting run, and adds your own dictionary pairs and settings export/import.
