What is Prism Download Manager?

Hi! I've been building Prism, a free, open-source (MIT) download manager, and I think a few of its features fit this sub:

Downloads you can trust

  • Resumes after crashes, sleep, power loss or a pulled cable. Progress is saved only after data is on disk.
  • On resume it checks size, ETag and Last-Modified, so it won't stitch together a file that changed on the server.
  • Add an md5, sha1 or sha256 checksum to a download and it's verified when the download finishes.
  • Keeps retrying servers that randomly drop connections (in my tests aria2 gave up on those).

Big jobs

  • Queues with schedules and speed limits: download overnight, then shut down when done.
  • Batch downloads, a site grabber, and a clipboard monitor.
  • Handles thousands of downloads without slowing down.

Video and music (via yt-dlp, which Prism keeps up to date)

  • YouTube and 1,800+ sites: MP4 up to 8K/HDR, MKV or WebM, or just the MP3.
  • Subtitles, chapters and SponsorBlock.
  • Playlists keep each video's own title, with optional numbering (01 - Title.mkv).
  • A "One at a time" option downloads a playlist one video after another.

Everything else

  • Up to 32 connections per file, HTTP(S), FTP/FTPS, HLS/DASH, BitTorrent and magnet links.
  • Browser extension in the Chrome Web Store (also works with Firefox).
  • No ads, no account, no telemetry.

Full disclosure: I built it with a lot of help from AI (Claude). I'm the one deciding what it does, testing it and going through feedback.

What would you need from a download manager for big archiving jobs? Ideas from my last posts already made it into the latest version, so I'm listening :)
