What is PNotes?
PNotes (Pinned Notes or Portable Notes, use what you prefer) is written entirely in C and Windows API (with Pelles C for Windows IDE) - so it is fast and light-weight. It has flexible settings - both for the program in whole and for individual note. Skins, fonts, colors, alarms, transparency level - there are all-in-one. Any portion of note's text can be formatted separately. There is a variety of skins for PNotes and, moreover, you can create your own one if download PNSkinCreator - a small utility for creation PNotes skins. Notes can also be skinless, that allows stretching them.

Just the fact it's written in C (and not some trendy scripting language like Python, Ruby or JavaScript) is worth 4 stars. This improves it's stability, performance and awesome sauce factor and endears it to me, a real life C programmer! The fact that it's just a great application in design, implementation and utility value is worth another 4 stars at least, but it only lets you add 5. :/
PNotes is a simple efficient application for jotting down things to remember. If you are like me - I sometimes want to create notes and display notes - period. I dont need to sync, encrypt or share.
Best portable Note-Apps: PNotes (and CherryTree), but cannot be used on SmartPhones:
People, who have no admin rights on their business computers must use PNotes Portable or CherryTree portable until now. PNotes Portable is very good, similar to Evernote, and able to use images in the Notes (also pasted from the clipboard). PNotes is able to sync the notes with an FTP-account and supports automatically working internet-links and you can search with tags and words in the text with very quick results similar to evernote:
In CherryTree you can save big notebooks with a hierarcical and tagged note-structure in ctd-files and in CherryTree you also can paste images from the clipboard to the notes, but there is not tag-list, and the search function and not-automated internet-link-setting is not so good as in PNotes. Only in PNotes you can pin Notes to a Window and set a reminder for a note. So I like PNotes more than CherryTree. The advantage of CherryTree over PNotes is, that you can set anchor-links to a selectable word in another note, in PNotes you only can define liked notes to every note, but you cannot link to a special spot in another note.
Not portable, but can be used on SmartPhones: Evernote and Nevernote (=NixNote)
