What is Pelmet?
Pelmet is a free, open source menu bar manager built for the menu bar Apple rebuilt in macOS 27. It hides the icons you don't need until you hover, click, or press a shortcut, then tucks them away again.
Icons live in three sections: Visible, Hidden, and Always Hidden. Arrange them in a layout editor with real icon previews, or hold ? and drag an icon across the chevron in the bar itself. Per-display rules, hover and click reveal, keyboard shortcut, and a setting for clicking the clock to open Notification Center.
Hiding is done by macOS itself, so there are no overlay windows or fake bars, and icons don't jump when the bar reflows. Native Swift, notarized, available in ten languages.
Privacy: no account, no analytics, no server. The only connection it makes is checking for its own updates.
Distributed as a DMG and through Homebrew (brew install fif7y/tap/pelmet). GPLv3.
