What is PearCal?

PearCal is a shared calendar for a family or a small group that nobody can start charging you for. There is no account to create, no subscription and no server. You make a group, send an invite link or show a QR code, and everyone's events sync straight between their own devices.

Sharing is the feature most private calendars charge for, or that requires somebody to run a server. PearCal has neither, so sharing is simply free and stays free. There is nothing to bill for, no free tier that can be narrowed later and no plan anyone in the group needs to be on.

It also means there is no company your family calendar depends on. Nothing can be acquired, shut down, repriced or filled with ads, because the app on your phone is the entire product. Calendars import and export as standard ICS files, so leaving is always possible.

Events, reminders and recurring schedules work offline and sync whenever devices can reach each other. Two phones on the same wifi sync with no internet connection at all. Groups have their own colors, members can be removed, and removing someone expires their invite link.

Under the hood it syncs peer to peer, with devices finding each other directly and replicating encrypted. For groups that want to stay reachable when every phone is asleep, there is an optional blind seeder you can run on your own hardware; it stores encrypted data and holds no key that could read an event.

There is no CalDAV support, so it will not two-way sync an existing work or Google calendar. It is a shared calendar for a group rather than a client for a hosted one.
