What is Pantry Host?

Pantry Host is a self-hosted, privacy-first kitchen companion for managing recipes, menus, ingredients, cookware, and grocery lists. All on your own hardware.

Ships three ways:

• Browser-native PWA — a fully offline-capable kitchen that runs entirely in-browser using PGlite. No server. No sign-up. Install it to your home screen and work on the go.

• Self-hosted app — a Rex (Rust-based) + Postgres stack you run on a Mac Mini, Raspberry Pi, or any always-on machine made remotely available over https via Tailscale. Containerized via Docker. Share access with your household over your LAN (guest mode is read-only; owner-only actions require localhost/https).

• Power User — Use Claude Code to self-host or Claude in Chrome to supercharge the browser version. Import recipes from any URL, generate new ones, manage your pantry conversationally.

Key features: • Pantry tracking with barcode & PLU produce-code lookup (Open Food Facts + IFPS data) • Grocery list informed by recipe queue • AI recipe generation (BYO Anthropic key) — respects your on-hand ingredients and cookware • Recipe import from TheMealDB, Cooklang, Wikibooks Cookbook, Public Domain Recipes, TheCocktailDB, and any URL with schema.org/Recipe markup • Decentralized recipe & menu sharing via the AT Protocol (exchange.recipe.* lexicons) — "Share to Bluesky" publishes to your own PDS (coming soon) • MCP server exposing 30 tools so AI assistants (Claude Desktop, Telegram bots via IronClaw, Cursor, etc.) can read/write your pantry on your behalf • "Hey Siri, Pantry" configurable relay. Ask Siri how what's on hand on the go. • Responsive image pipeline (WebP + JPEG + grayscale for e-ink) with offline Service Worker caching • Multi-kitchen support, menus/meal-plans, nutrition aggregation, allergen warnings, conversion table

Built on open web standards (HTML5, modern JS, React, Postgres, GraphQL). MIT-licensed. Runs on macOS, Linux, Windows (Docker), and any modern browser.
