What is OpenDocBot?

OpenDocBot is a client-side, provider-agnostic AI assistant for Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Connect your own LLM and the agent reads, writes and formats your documents directly, with no middleman servers and no vendor lock-in.

Unlike hosted "AI add-ins", OpenDocBot runs entirely in your browser and talks straight to the model provider you choose. Your document content never passes through our servers.

Bring your own model. Works with OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, DeepSeek, Amazon Bedrock, Microsoft Foundry, OpenRouter, OpenCode, any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, and local models via Ollama.

Stay in control.

  • Human-in-the-loop: review and approve every document-changing action before it runs.
  • Suggestion mode: a read-only review mode that adds native comments instead of editing.
  • Visible reasoning and a live task list for multi-step jobs.

Extend it.

  • Skills: reusable procedures, scoped per Office app, in the open Agent Skills (SKILL.md) format.
  • MCP: connect external tools (Model Context Protocol) with no-auth, API key or OAuth.
  • Attachments: drop in PDFs, Office files and data files; scanned PDFs get local OCR.

Self-host it. Run it on your own infrastructure (Docker or static hosting) for full control or air-gapped setups. Teams get SSO (OIDC, e.g. Microsoft Entra ID) and managed configuration.

Free and source-available. Free for individuals and teams up to 30 users. Source-available under a fair-code license; the full codebase is public on GitHub.

Platforms: Word, Excel and PowerPoint, on desktop and the web.
