The Best anime finder.
I can't really give MAL a score. On one hand, I love how it looks, and I'm really comfortable using it. I think the site as a whole makes way more sense than, lets say, Kitsu or Anilist. MAL has less functions than Anidb, but is way, waaaaaaay better-looking. On the other hand, the community is just... they all seem to be edgy, passive-agressive, dumb. They are all too american. In that sense, AniDB is much more adequate. MAL's interface has been degrading a lot too, with many weird design and functional changes being slowly implemented as the time passed, as if they were purposefully making the site worse without anyone noticing. This, and the whole plethora of issues they have with downtime, hacks, bugs every year. I really wished I liked AniList, but its modern design doesn't attract me at all. Kitsu, despite being open source, is outright unusable due to its mobile-looking interface. AniDB has a lot of functionality and useful features, but god is it ugly.
Note: I've decided to give it a 2-star rating. Why? Because, if you aren't aware, as of today, MyAnimeList connects to a total of 37 third-party URL's, according to uMatrix (possibly even more if I disable the filters). 14 of them being google's, 16 of them (possibly more, I don't know some of them) being ad-related. After some ads popped up even with all my ad-blocking, I realized it's time to denounce it, and leave. Where to? I don't know, I'll probably keep a list on AniDB or Anilist, but, ideally, I'd like to keep an offline list.
anidb: 0 third-party URL's anilist: 7 third-party URL's
kitsu: 14
There is no way to hide hentai from your list. All other sites (Anilist, Kitsu…) have this functionality.
Easy to use and customizable. Databases are constantly updated. But it has been revealed that moderators of the site has manipulated with votes and ratings, shut down discussions that they didn't like, restricted complaints about the staff & the site, antagonizes & looked down on some Anime fans they didn't like, and bumped down rankings & scores of shows that do not match their ideals.
While it's just ratings for Anime & Manga; and ratings, rankings, forums, reviews, and discussions aren't the main feature of the site that labels itself as the list to track anime you've watched & plan to - it is hard to not take issue with power-tripping staff, especially as the website do have revenue via countless tie-in integration & affiliate links that have been creeping in over the years.
The community is also generally snobbish.
The best anime/manga tracker I've used so far. Also works as IMDB for japanese voice actors and anime/manga staff.
Worst of all the anime trackers. Incompetent staff, bureaucracy. Horribly outdated website too. Avoid!
Should be noted that certain 3rd party tools such as Taiga have not been working for a long while due to MAL taking down its API. A time of return is uncertain.
yeah since last year, it is no longer working
