I don't see linux as one of the supported operating systems for this program, yes the 2016 version only supports centos 6.5 and redhat 6.5 WS so it may not work on other distros but still supports linux
This is one of the greatest software for animation and game development
There's a few great products available for someone that need to be added. a few are:
Verto Studio VR - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/verto-studio-vr/9p32wn9sxn7r
Actiongram Beta - https://www.microsoft.com/microsoft-hololens/en-us/apps/actiongram
and I feel that there are more out there. It is different from the other VR sets, it doesn't forces on games but more on how to get i to the real world.

It works on mostly Red Hat based linux systems, but can be used on ubuntu with enough tweaking. Here is the list of system requirements:
This is a very good program, it has been used in many of the movies and games that I watch and play. It has some amazing features, like painting models.. as in being able to add models to a scene really quick and easy. Its particle engine is one of the best.. if not the best. I plan on using this and blender when I make a movie.
